Simplifying Gentoo Updates

In case anyone was wondering, no I’m not dead. I’ve just been really busy. (partly because I’ve been obsessed with streamlining my computer)

Anyway, if you use Gentoo Linux, you might be interested in these two files. The first one is a script to make keeping the system up to date as simple as typing “sudo emerge-update” every now and then. The second one is a patch for the revdep-rebuild tool from gentoolkit (which the first script relies on) to allow forced exemptions (useful for binary packages).

Here you go…
* emerge-update
* revdep-rebuild forced-ignore patch

I’ll probably bundle them into a single archive and edit this post later on so please don’t link to them directly. Either copy them to your own site (I hereby release them under a GPL license) or link to this post.

Thanks and enjoy.
