URL: http://www.tabyk.net/stories/prayer.html
Author: Tabyk
Source: Ranma 1/2
Rating: 6/6
Type: Alternate Universe
Length: One-shot (Sequel series started)

Short, well written, and a bit chilling.

Grammar: 6/6
Overall: 6/6 (I can’t stop re-reading it.)
+2 Bonus for the sheer impact of the ending.

UPDATE: It’s been less than an hour since I wrote this review and I’m still re-reading it every few minutes. It has earned 6/6 status and a bonus too. (It used to be 5/6)

Fanfiction – “Angels, Heaven, and Earth”

Title: Angels, Heaven, and Earth
URL: http://www.fanfic.net/pub/Anime/FanFictions/Tenchi/tenchi.eva.angels-heaven-and-earth.gz
Author: Ken Arromdee
Source: Evangelion, Tenchi Muyo
Rating: 6/6
Type: Crossover
Length: Series (Complete, 12 Chapters)

A little something I got from the RAAC archive. Definitely an enjoyable crossover. It’s got that indefinable quality that draws me back. To the best of my knowledge, the main character is an original. I’d say more but why don’t you just read it for yourself?

Grammar: 5/6 (Generally well written and I re-read it more than once but there are parts that could have been better.)
Overall: 6/6 (I’ve re-read it twice as of now)

Fanfiction – “Goddess in the Mirror”

Title: Goddess in the Mirror
URL: http://www.thomasdye.com/fanfics/
Author: Bart Kelsey and Thomas Dye
Source: Oh! My Goddess/Aa! Megami-sama
Rating: 5.5/6
Type: Short series
Length: 5 Chapters (Complete. Sequel in progress.)

How might things have gone if Mara somehow managed to grant Keiichi’s wish before Belldandy could? I have to admit that I enjoy this story. Then again, I enjoy any well written story which manages to tie in a lot of computer references. Seriously though, I really do enjoy it a lot. I don’t know why but for some reason I can’t say much more about the story. Therefore, here’s a ratings breakdown.

Grammar: 5/6 (I’ve only ever applied a 6/6 grammar rating to things I re-read so far)
Originality: 4.5/6 (Re-uses the old storyline events in the old setting but in a new way)
Overall: 5.5/6
+1 Bonus for ending at the end of the story arc and starting a sequel
+1 Bonus for feeling of quality in the characters

Some WordPress 1.2.2 Bug fixes

I’ve applied some bug fixes to the RSS feed generator for my blog.
* If your feed reader has been telling you that my feeds were not valid XML, it shouldn’t anymore.
* My bandwidth consumption should go down since one of the bugs would always send the feed even if it hadn’t been changed since last viewing.
* The final one is more of a potential problem due to how the GoogleBot expects a blog to be set up but I fixed it anyway.

If you run a WordPress blog and want to see if they affect you too, check out these links:
* Feed bug
* Bandwidth bugs
* GoogleBot bug

Now that I’ve got spam blockers and bug fixes in, maybe I should start thinking up a nice theme.

General Announcements

As anyone who’s used WordPress extensively knows, you can postdate additions. (“Don’t show until…”) I won’t do that. If you see it, that means it’s as fresh as possible. That means I may write in bursts (as many as a dozen one day and then none for a week or two) but you’ll get them as they’re ready.

I save any fanfic I review to my hard drive. If something seems to have dropped off the web, let me know and I’ll either host a copy or send it to you. As it is, I try to link to a relatively stable archive like the RAAC Archive or fanfiction.net whenever possible.

I have now turned off forced comment moderation so you should be able to see your comments immediately. However, there are some conditions:
* There is a captcha (one of those “type this text” images)
* You will be unable to post when browsing through open proxies. (Often used by spammers for anonymity purposes)
* Comments with more than a certain number of links will wait for approval

That should kill off almost any spam I could receive. There are other anti-spam protections but you don’t need to know what they are unless you run your own WordPress blog. If so, feel free to ask and I’ll help you set them up.

Fanfiction – “No Matter What”

Title: No Matter What
URL: http://www.fanfiction.net/s/2052049/1/
Author: KittenKagome
Source: InuYasha with a Ranma 1/2-inspired concept
Rating: 6/6
Type: Semi-crossover (Ranma-inspired permanent gender swap in the IY world)
Length: One-shot

I ran across this little gem while browsing fanfiction.net and I just had to share it. The basic concept is, what if one of Naraku’s plans backfired and every main character ended up getting gender-swapped? It’s quite well written and I’d recommend it to anyone who has five minutes to spare.

Grammar: 5.5/6 (Very well written but I’ve seen one or two fics that were better)
Originality: 5/5 (It may be a Ranma concept added to IY but it’s well done!)
Overall: 6/6 (I re-read it the same day)

Link – Insightful Blog of Jan/05

I ran across a very interesting blog today. It’s called Pagan Savage and it’s author doesn’t exactly like christians as evidenced by his recent post, more proof that christians are morons… although if you’re not homophobic then please read the article he links to. It’s rather funny and made even more so by the fact that it’s real.

Anyway, I liked the posts that shot some pretty nice holes in the picture of good old George W. Bush. Take a look at them here (Nazis and the USA), here (Famous American heros would seem to disagree, Mr. Bush.), and here (Tell me I’m wrong).

I also liked this and this.

As for the reason this is geek-related, take a look at this post.
